Really fun stuff. Love the graphics and the music.

Thank you!

Try to make the collisions more forgiving.

FIxed the hitbox

I'm going to give you a three since this is your first published game.
But even if you are new to making games you gotta realize this isn't really a game.

You should at the very least added like black candy that also pops up or some form of hazard which can take away from your score.

You have a very long road ahead of you. But I wish you luck.
If you have any flash or game design questions feel free to ask me at www.berathen.com

Mhm, I know it's not really a game per se; the only reason I uploaded it was so I knew how it would look when embedded into a web page. I have some awesome ideas and will be working on a really nice, full game now. Thanks, I'll be sure to ask if I have any questions. :)

Good game

I found the hitbox on the shots to be a little too small. Thus making it difficult to hit the guy who I could tell was walking. Also I feel there is too little time to see where the walker is. Lastly starting from the beginning every time you miss the walker is quite unfortunate.
I love the idea of this game. If you implemented these changes I could see myself pouring more time into this game.

AthleticDesign responds:

The collision test is actually pixel perfect. I.e. you can shoot between the legs and miss - so, yeah, you have to aim very carefully!

Nice job

I mean no disrespect, but I can definitely see this is a first attempt at making a game.

My hat is off to you that the game does in fact have multiple levels and therefor play length. But the game play itself is not all that entertaining.

The animation is unfortunately not as good as it could be. I suggest for the healthbar that at the very least it be centered with the player's sprite. Moreso then that I would make the healthbar invisible except for when the player has recently taken damage. As really the health bar is just taking up the screen with its unsightly length. As for the background I suggest finding a way to make it not so obvious that it is looping.

As for the actual gameplay there really isn't any save for the boss fight. The multitude of enemies you face can just be left to their own devices as you can fly under or over most of them. Some you can even fly into as the damage they do to you is quite insignificant. I would suggest making the player unable to proceed without fighting the enemies. It would also be more challenging if the player has less health or the enemies did more damage.

Something else I feel would really add to the game is making control of the player smoother. Such as allowing the player to move diagonally. It would also be more engaging if the player could shoot in more then one direction. Lastly to add variety I suggest either making different types of enemies or giving the player different power-ups throughout the game.

I can't wait to see your next game. ^^

Yeah.

Not really a game.

I would not really call what we have here as a game. I would not even call it a mini-game.
The reason for this being that there is nothing to play. There isn't a real 'Start Menu' and once the 'game play' begins it ends in less then ten seconds.

If this is your first project then I can understand the quality of this product. I would suggest spending a lot more time looking at tutorials and practicing your skills before you submit another 'game' to newgrounds.com.

Perhaps I'm taking this way too seriously and you never even meant to make a game, but just a silly little scare screen. If so then I suggest taking away the need to kill the enemy and making the zombie appear based off of a timer. As the controls are not intuitive nor is the goal instantly apparent. That way anyone who accesses your game can get a little shocked.

If this was a serious first step into game making then again I suggest tutorials. Try making multiple 'levels' to your game so that the player can spend more then a few seconds enjoying themselves. If anything if you made more levels I am sure your abilities would improve.

Good luck.

oliversb responds:

Thanks for the advice I will look more into the tuts. It's my first game.

Homoje = awesome

I can't wait to see the next game. I don't care if it takes awhile. These games are awesome.

Blackrain39 responds:

Thanks, although it may be a very long wait, seriously.

Ummmm

I think you should add a time limit or something. You can get the max score of 30 just by being patient.

Spiff responds:

Yes because most people have the patience to do this.

To improve

First off it needs music and sound effects. Second it needs some sort of a story. There's just no purpose to it. Explained controls would be nice.
Most of all maybe the abiliy to level up and learn new moves and customize your stats would be enjoyable.

mcmasta responds:

yhe thanks for the advice, this is just a basic version becouse i was ill and it needs handing in so didnt have much time to make it

To improve

I would add levels or more challenging modes. Though a high score chart or leader boards would instantly give this game a huge chunk of replay-ability. Also I would make it so that a target can not spawn on top of the cannon. While the target is hittable due to the gravity that comes into play with the shots it requires a decent chunk of time, which throws off this fast paced game.

digitalgenre responds:

I see what you mean.
thanx
